  • Expectations:
  • Above are common concerns where a patient would like to go for a nose correction/rhinoplasty surgery. Patients who have one or more of these combinations of concerns can be made to have good results in one surgery with a satisfactory result.

  •  Unrealistic Expectations:
  • Patients with no concerns as above and unrealistic expectations regarding getting a nose shaped like someone else (celebrity ) may lead to dissatisfaction. Anyone who is looking for a nose to look like a specific celebrity should not consider a nose correction surgery.

  • Consultation:
    • First people with any of these have realistic expectations. One should consult a specialist rhinoplasty surgeon who has the experience and success rate. They will do a detailed consultation regarding a patient’s aesthetic and functional concerns, the possible realistic outcome of the surgery, and general information about the surgical procedure and postoperative care.

    • The nose may be photographed for academic and documentation purposes. Surgeons will prepare a comprehensive operative plan considering all your concerns.

    • One may be subjected to undergo routine blood tests and occasionally CT Scan to identify any internal problems in the nose like deviated nasal septum, polyps, etc.

    • One should give detailed information regarding any pre-existing medical conditions, medications, and smoking if any must be stopped 2 weeks before surgery, medications and supplements that cause blood thinning will have to be stopped 5-7 days before surgery.

  • Types of nose correction surgeries.
  •

    • Reconstructive surgery
      •  Reconstructive nose surgery restores the form and functions of the nose if your nose is disrupted during a birth error or an accident.

    • Cosmetic Surgery

      • Cosmetic Nose surgery changes the appearance of the nose based on the desired look expected of you. Cosmetic Nose Surgery is more of an elective surgery, which is done if you are not happy with the shape of your nose.

The skin is separated from the underlying structures. The bone and cartilage are sculpted and reshaped and the overlying skin is redraped on the sculpted framework.

There are post-operative care instructions to be followed for a full recovery and to see the results.

    • Recovery depends upon the complexity of the procedure. Patients who had a nose job involving the bone are going to have more swelling around the eyes and upper cheeks.

    • Patients who had only tip surgery may go back to work in 4-5 days, but patients who had surgery that involves all components may return to work after 7-10 days.
    •
    • Non-surgical rhinoplasty – “liquid rhinoplasty”, which uses dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are transparent gel-like substances injected first beneath the skin to restore lost volume and smoothen out lines caused by aging. This is been happening for latest couple of years. Surgeons usually inject hyaluronic acid under the skin to the desired effect.
    • And not everything can be corrected with this liquid rhinoplasty, only the height of the nose can be adjusted, not other things which go into standard open rhinoplasty.
    • Liquid rhinoplasty can address low lying dorsum of the nose. It might be saddle noses or a nose that is not prominent where the height of the nose is inadequate. For this kind of nose, we can provide a solution with nonsurgical rhinoplasty with injectable fillers. It is injected under the skin of the nose to increase the height of the nose
    •
    • First, you should be sure to complete the post-operative care period which can be 3 -6 months. Once this recovery period is over, the results can be appreciated. Certainly, you may not require corrective surgery. But if all of these recovery processes are followed and time is over, it is advised to consult the best surgeon and get their opinion. Once the period is over and still you are not satisfied then go for a second opinion with the best and most renowned plastic surgeon.
    • The revision of a rhinoplasty can be quite variable and depends entirely upon the patient’s wishes, existing anatomy, and the procedure which was done before. Sometimes minor touch-ups are all that are required and in other cases a major revision of the underlying nasal structures is necessary. Revision of a rhinoplasty typically is more complex and takes longer than a rhinoplasty performed for the first time and the expectation for what could be reasonably achieved may be lower. During your consultation, the team of surgeons will specifically discuss with you what you can and cannot reasonably expect from the revision of your rhinoplasty.

    • Yes, they can be combined in one surgery. Standard Rhinoplasty :
    • The height of the nose can be improve.
    • The width of the nose can be corrected
    • Tip of the nose can be improved- bulbous tip – rounded tips/boxy tips – Tipplasty – also combined in the rhinoplasty
    • The lower half of the nose – ailer base reduction
    • Septoplasty – to correct the position or the shape of the septum
    •

All these can be addressed in one surgery.

    • Depends on the skin. Most of the patients have thick skin, it is typical south Indian skin. In some cases, it can be done and in some, it is not advised. And it purely depends on the thickness of the skin and underlying structures and cartilage thickness along with the anatomy of the nose.
    • If one has a thick nose, the procedure once done may not be visible externally. These cases may not be improved. But before one can decide on their own, it is always best to get a consultation from a surgeon and then decide.

    • On the contrary, if the cartilage is thick and it can be manipulated, shaped and even the structure of the skin can be trimmed to some extent. In these cases, it is possible to do the tip surgery and results can vary from another standard rhinoplasty.

    • It is always advised to set your expectations based on the consultation and your nose structure and skin and results.

    • Depends on the nature of the surgery. It can vary from the tip of the nose correction to the entire nose correction along with functional problems. It ranges from minimal surgery like liquid rhinoplasty to extensive surgery. It is different if you get it done in a nursing home or corporate hospital. Safety mechanisms in corporate hospitals are much higher and take care of the patient post-operation as “Post Operative care”.
    • Tip-plasty or minimal surgery – Rs.50,000 – 80,000(again based on where you get it done)

    • Entire nose correction – Rs.1 Lacs to Rs. 1.5 lacs up to 2 lacs

    • Rhinoplasty surgery in general doesn’t involve scarring (hidden incisions – placed in the lower part of the nose called columnar labial crease incisions). It is barely visible
